About the rotation

These charts are whist-tournament layouts — the classic answer to “how do we rotate partners fairly?” Over a full evening (one round fewer than the number of players), every pair of players partners exactly once and sits across from each other exactly twice. Stop earlier and it’s still true that nobody repeats a partner.

Some parties move winners up a table after each round instead. A fixed rotation is easier to run from a printed sheet, and nobody spends the night stuck at the same table.

Running the night

  1. Enter everyone’s name and choose how many rounds you’ll play.
  2. Print the score cards — one per player — and the chart for the wall.
  3. Decide how long a round is (a set number of hands, or a time limit) and how points are counted.
  4. After each round, everyone writes down their points and moves to the next seat on the chart.

Need the rules for anyone new? How to play Euchre prints well, and the house rules page lists what to agree on before the first deal.

Common questions

How does progressive Euchre work?

Several tables of four play at once. After each round everyone changes partners, and each player keeps their own running total. The highest total at the end of the night wins.

Will anyone get the same partner twice?

No. For any number of rounds up to one fewer than the number of players, every partnership in the chart is new. Play every round and each player partners each other player exactly once and sits across from each of them exactly twice.

How many hands is a round?

That’s up to your party. Many play a set number of hands a round, often eight, or play to a time limit. Decide before the first deal and keep it the same all night.

What goes in the Points column?

Whatever your party scores by — most add up the points their team made in the round. Pick one rule, announce it, and everyone’s card works the same way.
