Sheepshead ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website playsheepshead.org and the Sheepshead mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services.

Information We Collect

Account Information

Display name — the name shown at the table and on leaderboards
Email address and password, if you create an account. You can play as a guest with a display name only, and guests give us no email.
A player ID we generate for your account, used to link your games, stats and friends together

Game Data

Game statistics (wins, losses, scores, hands played)
Match and hand results, ratings and leaderboard placements
In-game preferences and settings

Things You Write

Lobby and in-game chat messages
Your profile bio, study notes and game notes
Posts and replies you leave on the feature board

Device and Usage Information

Device type, operating system, and browser information
Usage analytics (screens visited, features used) and the analytics identifier Google Analytics assigns to your device. This is not linked to your account.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate and improve Sheepshead:

Supabase

Provides authentication and database services. Stores your account information and game data securely.

Google Analytics

Collects usage statistics — which screens are opened and which features are used — to help us understand how players use the app and improve it. It assigns your device an analytics identifier. We never send it your account details, so this data is not tied to your identity.

Advertising and purchases

Sheepshead is free and currently shows no advertisements and offers no in-app purchases. We do not serve ads, we do not use the device advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. If that ever changes we will update this policy and the App Store privacy information before it does.

How We Use Your Information

To provide and maintain the Sheepshead game experience
To track your game statistics, ratings and leaderboard rankings
To show what you write to the other players you are playing with
To manage your account
To analyze usage patterns and improve our services
To communicate with you about your account (if you created one with an email)
To send you our newsletter, if you have an account. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect your account or your game.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with the third-party service providers listed above, solely for the purposes of operating our services. Your game statistics may be visible to other players through leaderboards and in-game profiles.

Data Retention

We retain your account and game data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app (Profile → Delete account), or by contacting us at contact@playsheepshead.org.

Children's Privacy

Sheepshead is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at contact@playsheepshead.org.
