Trick

Definition

One round of play where each player contributes one card. There are 6 tricks in a hand. The highest card wins the trick.

Trick in play

A trick is one go-around: each player lays one card, and the highest card takes them all - the highest trump, or the highest card of the led fail suit if no trump was played. Six tricks make a hand. The cards you capture, plus any the picker buried, are what you tally toward 61, so winning point-light tricks early to set up a fat final trick is a genuine tactic.
