Strategy

Void

Definition

Having no cards in a particular suit. Being void in a fail suit is valuable because you can trump in when it's led.

Void in play

Being void in a fail suit - holding none of it - is a strength, because when that suit is led you may trump in and win. Pickers bury toward voids on purpose, and defenders prize natural voids for stealing tricks. The flip side: a void is only useful while you still have trump left to use it with.

Example

ā€œ"I'm void in clubs" means you have no clubs, so you can trump club leads.ā€
